Why does the same photo and prompt give a different image each time?
Last updated
Because generation samples a new result each time rather than looking one up. Run the same photo and the same words twice and you get two different rooms, both valid. This is the single most useful thing to understand about working with the product, and it is why the habit that produces good output is generating two or three and picking rather than rewriting after every attempt.
Generation is not a lookup #
There is no stored answer for your photo and your instruction that the product retrieves. Each run starts from a fresh random seed and builds a new image, so the same inputs describe a space of acceptable results rather than pointing at one. What you get back is a sample from that space. Two samples can differ in the sofa's shape, the exact wall tone, where the light falls, and which of several defensible layouts the model settled on, while both remain honest answers to what you asked for.
This is the feature, not the defect #
It reads as inconsistency and it is worth reframing. A deterministic tool would hand you one answer and leave you to accept or abandon it. Variation is what lets you generate three versions of a living room and choose the one that suits the buyer, which is a different and better position than arguing with a single output. The mode that most obviously depends on this is restyling a room, where the whole point is seeing options. It is also why a result you liked and did not download is genuinely gone: regenerating will not reproduce it.
How many to run #
Two or three per room is the working rhythm most people settle into, and it is the number worth budgeting for rather than one. A fourth and fifth add less than the second and third did, because by then you are usually choosing between good options rather than looking for one. If three runs have all missed in the same direction, stop generating and change something, since a sixth sample from the same space is unlikely to land somewhere the first five did not. How credits work covers what that means for the cost of a room.
When variation means something is wrong #
There is a useful distinction between results that differ and results that are consistently wrong. If three runs give you three different rooms and all of them are pleasant, the tool is working and you are choosing. If three runs all put a window where there is no window, all ignore the same instruction, or all warp the same corner of the floor, that is not sampling noise. It is a signal about the input, and rewriting the instruction or reshooting the photo will do more than another attempt. When a render fails outright is a separate case again and has its own page.
You cannot ask for the same result twice #
There is no seed to pin and no way to say "that one again, but slightly different". If a result is nearly right, the way forward is to edit that image rather than to regenerate the room and hope. Editing one detail works on the picture you already have and preserves everything you liked about it, which is exactly the situation regeneration cannot handle. The practical rule that follows is simple: download anything you might want. What happens to your images covers how long the product holds onto it if you do not.
